Holy pajamas! I had finally, finally mastered the GFCF part and had found some great substitutions that my son loved. With the food panel results showing an egg free diet that was ridiculous enough to add. But to treat for my son’s yeast problems and be more successful we have to go yeast and sugar free/low sugar. So pretty much 80% of the substitutes my son now eats include one or more of the new no nos. Add my very very very very very picky eater who loves the frozen foods and like 5% of the homemade things I make him and now I have to replace his entire menu, again.
Ok, but I am ready. I have the motivation just from seeing his language developments from the B12. I know this is going to extremely hard work.
But what I have learned in the past few days will set me up hopefully for a brand new nutritious menu for my son. So here are some pointers.
SUGAR – Sugar is in everything, literally everything. Read, read, read the labels. Here are some to help you and I am sure there are more so do your research.
Hidden sugar names (take this with you when you go grocery shopping!):
barley malt, beet sugar, brown sugar, buttered syrup, cane sugar, cane-juice crystals, caramel, carob syrup, corn syrup solids, corn syrup, date sugar, dextran, dextrose, diastase, diastatic malt, ethyl maltol, fructose, fruit juice concentrate, fruit juice, glucose, glucose solids, golden sugar, grape sugar, high-fructose corn-syrup, honey, invertsugar, lactose, malt syrup, maltodextrin, maltose, mannitol, molasses, raw sugar, refiner’s sugar, sorbitol, sorghum-syrup, sucrose, suga, turbinado sugar, yellow sugar
Depending on your dietary needs sugar replacements vary and if you have a child it is not a good idea to use some of those sugar replacers.
EGGS – The eggs also extremely hard to replace. So here you go for more hidden ingredient names for eggs.
albumin, apovitellin, cholesterol free egg substitute, dried egg solids, dried egg, egg wash, livetin, lyxozyme, mayonnaise, meringue, meringue powder, ovomucoid, ovotransferrin, ovovitelia, ovovitelin, powdered eggs, vitellin, whole egg, eggnog, ovalbumin, silica albuminate, lecithin, fat substitutes, ovoglobulin, simplesse, ovomucin , trailblazer
YEAST – Say goodbye to store bought items. It is suprising once you look at labels how many items have yeast in them. Sugar is a yeast feeder so you should refer to the sugar names too and avoid these.

autolyzed yeast, autolyzed yeast extract, yeast extract, yeast food, yeast nutrient
I am sure there are lots of names in all categories which I have left out. If you want to be sure what the ingredients are call the manufacturer. The food labels do not always list all the ingredients. I am going to start simple so I know everything that is going into him and not killing myself doing it. There will be nights when I don’t cook but if I am freezing things as I go I will always have something good in the freezer for him. Try cooking like your grandma did. Meat, starch and vegetable.
