Ok so I have known about this for a week but wanted to wait to post the full details when I got more in writing from the school district. Yesterday in the mail from the district came an IEP progress review meeting invitation. On March 24th we will be meeting with P’s teachers and therapists to discuss moving him out of his current classroom to a integrated classroom. This means there would be 13-15 students in the classroom. Six children would be developmentally delayed and 7 children would be P’s peers with no developmental delay. This is in short, is fantastic news. Just in case you aren’t up to date he is currently in a classroom with three other children, only, all with developmental delays.
P’s teacher approached me last week and said; ”We all keep shaking our heads, we don’t know why he is in this classroom, he is ready to take off”. My cool calm armor exterior was definitely challenged. And I was a little shaky and light headed. I called P’s dad on the way home and couldn’t even get out what I wanted to say because I was crying hysterically with happiness. He thought tragedy but oh well too bad for him.
I don’t know the details and I am sure there will be hiccups and lots of discussion at the meeting on how we are going to do it, but P will be moving to a new school. They don’t want to wait till next year they want to transfer him after April vacation. I mean, I am really at a loss for words. Ok not really but sorta. Soon I’m gonna start to river dance and throw a fiesta I am so happy. My vocabulary is lacking and I’m thinking “awesome” is about the best I can come up with. Yeah P! He deserves all the praise and credit, he put in the work.
